Trust administration

Typical clients include:

  • Adult children who don’t want to administer a parent’s trust.
  • Siblings who don’t trust each other.
  • Out-of-state beneficiaries.
  • Family members who don’t want the liability of serving as trustee.
  • Professional advisors (CPAs and financial advisors) who need an independent fiduciary to recommend.

The underserved client

Think about a trust worth:

  • $400,000
  • a home
  • investment account
  • checking account

A national bank may not want it.

Fees

Professional trustees generally charge in one of three ways:

  • Percentage of assets under administration: often around 0.5%–1.5% annually, depending on the trust and services.
  • Hourly billing: common for unusual or short-term matters.
  • Minimum annual fee: many corporate trustees establish one regardless of asset size.

The right model depends on whether we are serving as an ongoing trustee or administering a trust for a limited period.
